Desafios da democracia representativa a partir de Senhor das moscas, de William Golding

Abstract

The usage of Iiterary fiction as object of study for Law studies is comprehensive, being considered the fictional material as a rich source for illustrating juridical concepts. That known, this study has the goal of, using the novel Lord of the flies, by William Golding, investigate matters related to the challenges that representative democracy finds, specially those related to authoritarianism. Starting from the novel, first published in 1954, and after exposing a brief chronology of the history of representative democracy, its state at the beginning of the 20th century and the challenges faced by it then and nowadays, this paper aims to understand how the anguishes of the time found representation on the fi ctional work written by Golding, and how those concerns communicate with those found on the debate around contemporary democracy.
