Abstract

It reports on the daily life of the courts of the Inquisition of Spain and Portugal in the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries. It describes the hierarchy of the courts and superior organs of the Holy Office. It analyzes the main ceremonies performed by the institution. It examines works of classical literature that condemned the inquisitorial courts, as well as the censorship relating to them. Emphasizes the rite of the self of faith and the execution of heretics after it. It outlines the evolution of human rights and parallels modern and inquisitorial criminal proceedings. It is concluded that the Inquisition is not justified at all, and should always be remembered as a mistake that must never be repeated.
