Maracatucá: o maracatu em Fortaleza

Abstract

This paper aims to present the development of the project “Maracatucá”, Zine and Website about the tradition of Maracatu in Fortaleza. Based on studies on the relationship between Graphic Design and black identity, the project explores the potential of design as a tool for celebrating culture and safeguarding the memory of communities. The development of the research also investigates the historical erasure of the black presence and contributions in the state of Ceará and its results, seeking ways to combat its consequences. This paper presents the project's development, from bibliographical studies, to field research, interviews, the conception and the production of its products. The final result narrates the history of Maracatu in Ceará, its importance in the fight and resistance of the Afro-Cearense community and its relevance in the cultural identity of the state.
