Laser de baixa intensidade no tratamento da mucosite oral, induzida por radioterapia e quimioterapia, uma revisão de literatura

Abstract

Oral mucositis is characterized by being a common inflammation in patients with head and neck neoplasms, causing adversities for the health of the individual. Low intensity laser in the treatment of oral mucositis is becoming more and more common in dentistry and, therefore, it becomes even more important to understand the reliability of such a technique. This work seeks to bring an analysis of the effectiveness of low-intensity laser in the treatment of oral mucositis induced by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The research is based on an analysis of the Pub Med database, in which the following descriptors were used: “Low level intensity laser”, “treatment”, “oral mucositis”. The following were included in the survey: Clinical trials, meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, reviews and systematic reviews of the last 10 years. Documents and books were excluded, as were articles that mentioned laser treatment for other medical complications but did not mention oral mucositis, as well as articles that exceeded the limit of the last 10 years. 11 results were found, of which 8 were selected. It was found that the use of low intensity laser in the treatment of oral mucositis has satisfactory effects, these being biochemical and also biological that influence the improvement of cellular metabolism, resulting in the reduction of complications caused by oral mucositis, including the reduction of painful symptoms, allowing an improvement in their quality of life. This literature review concludes that low-intensity laser is essential for the treatment of oral mucositis, and also showed that it is necessary to reach a standardized regulation for the use of laser therapy, emphasizing that it is a technique that can evolve even further. , being subject to further studies.
