Cineteatro São Luiz: história e memória

Abstract

This project aims to honor and analyze the cultural significance of the Cineteatro São Luiz, an iconic landmark in Fortaleza, through personal accounts and interviews with key figures in its history. The methodology includes documentary research, providing a deeper understanding of São Luiz’s journey from its inauguration to the present day. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with artists, managers, and regular visitors, offering personal and emotional perspectives on the venue’s impact on the city's cultural life. Developed as a tribute to the Cineteatro, the project utilizes these narratives to highlight the challenges it has faced, its diverse and often free programming, as well as its role in resisting the trend of cinema centralization in shopping centers. Through these stories and analyses, the work underscores São Luiz's importance as a living cultural heritage, vital to the cultural identity of Fortaleza and the preservation of its rich history.
