Resumen en portugués brasileño: Uma investigação experimental sobre a síntese de zeólita A, baseada no tratamento de cinzas volantes e controle extração de sílica e alumina das cinzas volantes de carvão, combinada com o ajuste das misturas reacionais visando quantidade mínima de fases secundárias, é aqui apresentada. As amostras precursoras de cinzas volantes e as obtidas zeólitas foram amplamente caracterizadas considerando diferentes técnicas, incluindo difração de raios X em pó, infravermelho espectroscopia vibracional, microscopia eletrônica de varredura e análise termogravimétrica. Uma nova técnica de caracterização de poros que combina isotermas experimentais de CO₂ a 273 K e simulação molecular foi especialmente desenvolvido para este sistema. As zeólitas sintetizadas apresentaram a zeólita A como fase majoritária, com alta cristalinidade e baixo grau de defeitos nas supergaiolas. As cinzas volantes tratadas afetaram o rendimento de síntese e as propriedades das zeólitas obtidas, que se mostraram eficientes na diminuição da viscosidade do cimento asfáltico modificado, durante o aquecimento, contribuindo para melhorar a sua trabalhabilidade.
Abstract: An experimental investigation on the synthesis of zeolite A, based on the treatment of fly ash and controlled extraction of silica and alumina from coal fly ash, combined with the adjustment of the reaction mixtures aiming minimum amount of secondary phases, is presented herein. The precursor samples of fly ash and the obtained zeolites were widely characterized considering different techniques including powder X-ray diffraction, infrared vibrational spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. A new pore characterization technique that combines experimental CO₂ isotherms at 273 K and molecular simulation was specially developed for this system. The synthesized zeolites presented zeolite A as the major phase, with high crystallinity and low degree of defects in the supercages. The treated fly ashes affected the synthesis yield and the properties of the obtained zeolites, which proved to be efficient in decreasing the viscosity of the modified asphalt cement, during heating, contributing to improve its workability.
