Os limites do (conceito de) texto: destaque para o não verbal

Abstract

Sudies on the multimodal apparatus of texts are relatively recent in Textual Linguistics and they tend to focus almost exclusively on the characterization of textual genres or genres in the digital environment. In this article, we analyze the role of the image in texts and, intending to contemplate two tendencies: the Grammar of Visual Design, proposed by Kress & van Leeuwen (2006), and the visual language matrix presented by Santaella (2005) and Santaella & Nöth (2008). We understand that one must assume all the complexity of the textual object and propose analyzes that account for its multiplicity, considering that different semiotic manifestations or different processes involved in non-verbal interaction situations undergo an interpretative treatment in interactional situations, which, according to some aspects, seems to resemble the treatment given to the linguistic apparatus of text. We will see that discussion about the pertinence of other modes of language in the configuration of meaning is an old thesis. What can be considered new is the fact that Textual Linguistics has only more recently begun to worry about this question. Therefore, as a side effect, we have the emergence of a controversial issue: to decide to what extent the path opened by the consideration of non-verbal can go.
