Abstract

This research sought to penetrate the symbolic universe and the marine physical environment of parts of the coast in the state of Ceará through artisanal fishing. The construction of the maritimity of the city of Fortaleza-CE historically has cornered artisanal fishing by the real state market, the exploitation of touristic capital incomings and the interests of the state in its image. With this in view, I discuss the implications of my aesthetic choices as I cross this complex coastal universe. I chose to dwell on the relation I made to the imagery of artisanal fishing with the imagery of civil construction. From this experience emerged works in video, film, painting and urban intervention. I describe the process of capturing images and thinking about them, and at last I bring to the discussion ethical-aesthetic reflections about how an artistic work is capable of proposing the revision of a historical memory.
