| Abstract in Brazilian Portuguese: | Esta pesquisa investiga o uso de elementos fantásticos no longa-metragem franco-senegalês Atlantique (2019), dirigido por Mati Diop, entendendo de que maneira eles podem ser significativos para uma perspectiva contra-colonial no audiovisual. Na carreira da realizadora, a espectralidade está presente desde a sua primeira direção, em harmonia com temáticas que atravessam sua vida pessoal. A partir de um paralelo entre o gênero literário do realismo mágico ou realismo maravilhoso, predominante na América Latina, e a tendência cinematográfica contemporânea do realismo fantasmagórico, no leste asiático — ambas estéticas conectadas à cultura animista dos países de seus realizadores —, é visto que Atlantique também possui íntima relação histórica e sociocultural com o Senegal e com a África, além de reivindicar uma perspectiva promissora de futuro para a negritude. Isso se dá, ao analisar a obra e seus elementos simbólicos, pela maneira como Mati Diop filma o drama dos personagens, unindo o sobrenatural ao cotidiano de suas vidas. |
| Abstract: | This research investigates the use of fantastic elements in the Franco-Senegalese feature film Atlantique (2019), directed by Mati Diop, examining how it can be meaningful for a counter-colonial perspective in audiovisual media. Throughout the filmmaker’s career, spectrality has been present since her first directorial work, in harmony with themes that permeate her personal life. By drawing a parallel between the literary genre of magical realism or marvelous real, predominant in Latin America, and the contemporary cinematic tendency of ghostly realism in East Asia — both aesthetics connected to the animist cultures of the artists’ countries — it is observed that Atlantique also maintains a close historical and sociocultural relationship with Senegal and with Africa, besides claiming a promising future perspective for blackness. This is achieved, through an analysis of the film and its symbolic elements, through the way Mati Diop films the characters’ drama, merging the supernatural with the everyday aspects of their lives. |
