Trajetória de ativistas de direita no estado do Ceará

Abstract

The motivations that lead right-wing activists to adopt liberal and conservative political ideas, as well as to organize themselves into political movements, were examined. It was assumed that deeply rooted social experiences form dispositions to think and act (Lahire, 2004) that are later mobilized politically. For this purpose, a trajectory analysis approach was utilized. The main analysis method consisted of semi-structured interviews with Bolsonaro supporters, with secondary bibliographic material serving this purpose. The relevance of socialization in at least three social spheres was questioned: family, school, and political field. It is concluded that these fields were important for shaping ways of thinking and acting aligned with Bolsonaro's discourses. In one case, the middle-class social condition, as well as educational background, allowed the flourishing of an individualistic disposition that naturally linked to a meritocratic discursive matrix. In the other case, the centrality of the family and a impoverished life trajectory resulted in a social care disposition strongly tied to familist ideology. In both cases, there were moments of hibernation of these dispositions. It was also observed the presence of favorable contexts for their emergence in the political field, among which are the economic and political crisis linked to the left and the PT, and the mediation of social networks.
