Contratempo

Abstract

A starting point for me to begin recording at that time might have been an investigation with the mirror. Between 2015 and 2016 I made a series of videos that were initially not meant to be edited. In the same year, I gathered all the material and driven by a desire to bring those images closer together, I created a film. During the editing process, I was led to images from former times that started to mix together assembling a cut that through an essayistic writing aimed for ways to play with the multiplicity of the revealed file. In the following years, I forced myself to remake the film by deleting it’s first assignment. In 2018, I wrote a project entitled Contratempo, which referred to the same archive purposely returning to the material while coming up with a new cut that intended not to recreate the previous cut, but to use it as a guide to propose new approaches. The project, however, was not continued. Contratempo is also the title of this memorial that looks at the film set in 2016 and sees it as another process vestige that has no interest whatsoever in delimiting where it begins and where it ends.
