Abstract

CONTEXT: The Semantic Web represents an extension of the conventional Web, aiming to structure and interconnect data available on the Internet for better understanding and processing by machines. In today’s technological landscape, it continues to be a significant area of research and application, with ongoing developments and growing relevance in various areas. MOTIVATION: The absence of a comprehensive study of the most common Semantic Web practices in the literature is a gap that needs to be filled. Although there is theoretical information on the Semantic Web, there is a lack of practical analysis, which limits the understanding of how this technology is actually used. This study aims to fill this gap by identifying and documenting the most commonly used practices on the Semantic Web. In doing so, it aims to provide useful insights for professionals and researchers, contributing to a better understanding and practical application of this technology in different contexts. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the Semantic Web in the current context by analyzing the most widely used practices in GitHub repositories. The aim is to provide relevant information for using the Semantic Web in different systems and applications. METHODOLOGY: This study adopts a methodological approach that aims to obtain a percentage analysis of Semantic Web practices. The process begins with a literature review, followed by the definition of specific metrics based on the functionalities offered by the repositories on GitHub. Subsequently, a careful selection of repositories is carried out, taking into account these specific criteria to identify relevant projects. The research will result in the documentation of practices, including an analysis of the percentage of projects that use them, detailing their use and evaluating their importance. BENEFITS: The results of this study will benefit developers, companies and researchers. They will be able to observe the characteristics of the main Semantic Web technologies and use them in their projects. In addition, it will serve as a point of reference for researchers working in the area, contributing to progress in the development of the Semantic Web for web applications.
