O Sertãopunk em Mandacaru Vermelho: (re)imaginando um nordeste através da ficção científica

Abstract

The Undergraduate Thesis titled Mandacaru Vermelho: (Re)imagining a Northeast through Science Fiction investigates the possibilities of integrating the science fiction genre with the cultural landscapes of the Northeast. The main objective of the study is to analyze how elements of science fiction can be utilized to reflect the social, political, and environmental realities of the region, providing a reinterpretation of the genre. The methodology includes a bibliographic review of major works in science fiction and horror, as well as a critical analysis of films and books that situate these narratives within the Northeastern context. The results reveal that, while the Northeast offers a promising setting for the adaptation of these narratives, the complexity of integrating science fiction elements with local realities presents challenges in terms of the feasibility of the works. It is concluded that Mandacaru Vermelho: (Re)imagining a Northeast through Science Fiction brings significant contributions but also highlights the inherent limitations and difficulties in attempting to adapt science fiction into an economically viable work, requiring more refined and contextualized approaches for the writing of feasible films.
