Abstract

The era of pastiche and parataxis is over! It’s what declares Timotheus Vermeulen and Robin Van Den Akker declare in their metamodernist manifesto named Notes on Metamodernism (2010), which tests the concept of postmodernity and finds it inadequate and insufficient for understanding contemporary complexity. Consequently, this essay study seeks to understand the concept of metamodernism in art and its correlations with the field of fashion. To this end, an analytical investigation is developed to comprehend the characteristics of the metamodern movement and identify them in contemporary aesthetic productions. The methodology employs a qualitative and exploratory approach, using bibliographic and documentary research. The bibliographic research involves reviewing existing literature on metamodernism, including books, academic articles, theses, and dissertations. The study aims to grasp the concept and characteristics of metamodern sensibility as both an aesthetic and philosophical current, and subsequently analyzes figures that resonate with these concepts in fields such as art, cinema, design, and fashion. It concludes that metamodern aesthetics reflect contemporary issues that are perceptible in the current spirit of the times. .
