Abstract: | This work starts by presenting a conceptual approach to the understanding of information in human organizations, its strategic cole and how it shold be managed. It proceeds by focusing on how information is generated and distributed in the construction activity, taking into account not only the building site, but the relationship of the construction company with its clients and suppliers. A comprehensive diagram of the flow of information in all activities of a building company, internal and external, is presented. Finally a field study is conducted covering 58 construction firms in various brazilian states in order to check if innovations in the areas of producing, organizing, displaying and fostering better communication and information are in line with theoretical concepts described earlier on. A total of 101 information geared technological innovations were addressed as far as they are being applied in each one of the construction companies. Only 30 to 40% of them were in effective use in the majority of the organizations. |
