Saberes que permanecem: tradição, memória e aprendizagens femininas no artesanato de Palmácia

Abstract

This monograph aims to understand how artisanal knowledge is constructed and perpetuated in the city of Palmácia, with an emphasis on tradition, memory, and women's learning processes. The study is based on the recognition of handicrafts as intangible cultural heritage and seeks to highlight the role of women in the preservation and transmission of these knowledges in everyday life, especially within family and community contexts. The research adopts a qualitative approach, based on bibliographic review and field using, as instrument, questionnaire application and semi-structured interviews with local craftswomen, complemented by participant observation. The findings reveal that artisanal learning occurs informally, often through female teaching networks and direct coexistence with other women in the family or neighborhood. The artisanal practices are strongly linked to the cultural identity of the craftswomen, acting as a form of resistance and territorial belonging. It is concluded that manual knowledge, far from being obsolete, remains alive in daily practice, sustained by memory, affective relationships, and traditions passed down through generations.
