Cadê minha liberdade? A luta antimanicomial no Hospital de Custódia Governador Stênio Gomes

Abstract

The radio documentary “Where is my freedom? The anti-asylum struggle at Hospital de Custódia Governador Stênio Gomes”, in Itaitinga, in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza, presents the reality within this psychiatric institute, which is a reference in the prison system of Ceará, through reports and reflections raised by important members of the unit's legal and health team, in addition to analyzing whether law 10,216/2001, known as the Anti-Asylum Law, is being complied with in this custody hospital. The making of the final product started with the following question: how can the language and aesthetics of the radio documentary be used to present - in a sensitive, critical and assertive way - the anti-asylum struggle in Ceará through the experience of the Hospital de Custódia Governador Stênio Gomes ? For that, we used the following methodological procedures: a) bibliographic research; b) participant observation (visit to the institution); c) and semi-structured interview (DUARTE, 2005). The work had as theoretical support the debates on psychiatric reform (PONTES; SOUZA; FRAGA), mental health (LOPES), anti-asylum struggle (LUCHMANN; RODRIGUES) and radio documentary (MEDITSCH; FERRARETO).
