Abstract in Brazilian Portuguese: | The increasing demand for energy, the reduction of non-renewable resources, the growth of the greenhouse effect originating mainly from the use of fossil fuels and the current climate changes, have caused worries and global discussions on possible alternatives to mitigate these factors, Use of clean energy sources. Given this context, associated to the dependence of increasingly scarce fossil energy sources, there is a need to diversify the use of energy sources, especially in relation to renewable energy sources, which currently appear as the most applicable option to solve this problem. In Brazil, a topic frequently discussed because of its importance for sustainable development, are the issues related to the destination of solid urban waste (SUW), whose negative effects directly reflect on the environment. One of the options to reduce this environmental impact is the energy utilization of biogas from the decomposition of SUW in landfills, since its use as an energy source will not only bring benefits in the economic area, such as electricity and fuel generation, but also The environment, reducing greenhouse gas (GEE) emissions into the atmosphere, which can result in climate change, as well as the correct treatment and disposal of urban solid waste, thus avoiding pollution of soil and surface water and groundwater. |
