Subjetividade feminina a partir da análise da vida e obra de Ann Radcliffe

Abstract

This article seeks to understand how female subjectivity can be used as a methodological tool to understand the psyche of women in their works. Having as object of analysis the life of the writer Ann Radcliffe and her work Os Mistérios de Udolfo (1798), a work that was fundamental for the construction of the Gothic genre in literature and that later was the trigger for the realization of the detective novel. The work seeks to add to gender studies bringing a new perspective of studies to the figure of the woman writer and protagonist, having as her starting point her trajectories, permeated by her experiences and traumas and how they are presented in her work, bringing her Ann Radcliffe's striking presence during the reading of her work, which is permeated by the social condition of the time (18th / 19th century), her place as a woman and the concept of terror / horror that will shape the Gothic genre.
