| Abstract in Brazilian Portuguese: | Este artigo aborda duas histórias de mulheres unidas em um mesmo sistema de relações, construído no interior de uma casa senhorial comandada por uma delas, na cidade de Desterro (Florianópolis), capital de Santa Catarina, no último quartel do século XIX. O estudo analisa como essas mulheres – senhora e escravas – enfrentaram, a partir do seu lugar social, as regras de uma estrutura patriarcal que dominava, por força legal, as suas vidas e destinos. A primeira mulher que essa história apresenta é Anna Francisca da Costa e Silva, senhora bem posicionada na sociedade do seu tempo, viúva, provedora e administradora da própria casa onde vivia em companhia de dois escravos libertos, quatro jovens escravas e duas crianças, Roza e Maria, filhas de Eva e Benedita, as duas personagens que protagonizam a segunda história apresentada no texto e que trata das expectativas que animaram essas mulheres a requererem, judicialmente, a tutela das suas filhas menores, transferida ao inventariante de sua senhora, em decorrência da sua morte. |
| Abstract: | This article deals with two stories of women united in the same relationship system, built inside a manor house run by one of them, in the city of Desterro (Florianópolis), capital of Santa Catarina, in the last quarter of the 19th century. The study analyzes how these women, mistress and slaves, faced, from their social place, the rules of a patriarchal structure that legally dominated their lives and destinies. The first woman this story presents was Anna Francisca da Costa e Silva, a well-placed lady in the society of her time; Provider and administrator of the residence, where she lived in the company of four slaves and two children, Rosa and Maria Benedicta, daughters, respectively, of Eva and Benedita, the two characters who play the second story presented and that deals with the expectations that animated these two women. to petition in court for the custody of their youngest daughters, guarded by Anna Francisca's executor, as a result of their death. |
