Abstract: This is a case study, aimed at unveiling the self-care and sense of life in older adults suffering from diabetes mellitus who go to a hospital in Tumbes-2015. Method; Qualitative research with a case study approach; The sample was 10 Adults when the interviews conducted did not produce any authentically new information. The results were the categories: Losing the meaning of life, Finding motivations in Life, Thinking and sharing with the family, Demonstrating self-care practices and Perceiving death close. In conclusion, according to older adults, old age cannot be isolated from the continuous development of each person, from how he lived the previous stages of his life and above all facing a chronic illness that makes them increasingly dependent, useless without responsibilities and motivations to move forward.
