Elementos estruturais da clínica da melancolia no conto “a terceira margem do rio”.

Abstract

This essay proposes to investigate the existing relations between the melancholic structure and the Guimarães Rosa’s short story "The third bank of the river". The short story is about a son who is always related to his father's absence, since his abrupt but determined departure for the river. For this proposal we dispose of three brief chapters, in which the first one deals with the intrinsic relation between literature and psychoanalysis, being the first anticipator of the unconscious and therefore authorizing such approximation. The second chapter takes advantage of the melancholy itself since its appearance in ancient Greece until it is attributed to the field of medical knowledge by psychiatry, and then we deal with melancholia by the psychoanalytic perspective of Freud and Lacan. The third chapter talks about the relation between the melancholic structure and the elements that leapt to our eyes in "The third bank of the river". Counting on the psychoanalysis’ methodology, which distances itself from the classical academic methodology, we raise questions about the clinic of melancholy without the pretension of being conclusive.
