Abstract: Wind energy is one of the fastest growing types of energy generation, data from the Global Wind Energy Council of 2017, show that the wind energy matrix corresponds to 2.5% of the total generated, however, its annual growth is 25%. The onshore wind potential of Brazil is 146 GW, and it is estimated that the offshore wind potential is 12 times greater. In offshore wind farm projects, one of the aspects of great importance and complexity is what will be the type of foundation, and how it will behave through a range of dynamic loads to which it will be subject. Foundations, which account for about 25% of the total cost of a wind turbine and include the greatest installation risks, remain an area of particular interest for cost reduction. Monopiles are the most common type of foundations for offshore wind turbines, and have been widely used in the world. This paper describes the Imperial College Pile (ICP) approach proposed by Jardine (2005) for the development of reliable estimates for the axial strength of spiked piles and their comparison between established methodologies, Aoki and Velloso (1975) and Bustamante and Gianeselli (1982) ). The OWEZ wind power plant, located on the coast of the Netherland used monopile foundation solution in 36 wind turbines. Taking as a case study the subsoil and wind turbine r in question, an analysis and comparison was made regarding the estimation of the axial resistance of the soil-foundation interface by three methods: ICP-05 proposed by Jardine (2005), Aoki and Velloso, 1975 and Bustamante and Gianeselli (1982). The results show that the axial load capacity by the ICP-05 method is 90% higher than that obtained by Aoki and Velloso (1975) and 19% higher than that obtained by Bustamante and Gianeselli (1982). The use and application of appropriate and specific methods are significant to avoid costly problems resulting from undervaluations of the load-bearing capacity of the soil-foundation interface.
