Um olhar sobre a História Regional e Local: o rol de equipagens e a política governamental no Vale do São Francisco

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the sailings in the São Francisco River and the Brazilian government, focusing on the rowers activities on the waterway in the early period of the Vargas government, especially the institution of the list of crew and suppression of local powers through the extinction of militias. Through a perspective based on regional and local history, the result of discussions and reflections on PPGH-UEFS / Master in History, are the object of our attention the tensions between rowers and boaters in commercial shipping activities and passengers and how the list of crew, mechanism used by the State, intensified after the rise of Getulio Vargas to power, begins to regulate such relations. To do this, perceptions, representations and feelings expressed through oral reports served as a fundamental key within the sources selected for the development of our analysis. Besides these materials, that comprehend life experiences between the cities of Juazeiro/BA, Petrolina/PE, Remanso/BA and Barreiras/BA, we made photographic record analysis. We treat also the issue of memory and identity in relation to the way the space/time defined here is also local disputes and trauma around the river work and the collective memory of former rowers.
