Os limites da sexualidade masculina no discurso médico e nos romances para homens da passagem do século XIX para o XX

Abstract

From a discussion about the emergence in the field of gender studies of issues related to the construction of masculinity, this paper intends to approach the medical and so-called “novels for men”. Seeks to understand how it has imposed limitations on the exercise of male sexuality in the late nineteenth to the twentieth century both in literature and in the erotic character of medical text and the relations between the imposition of such limits, and the set up of a hegemonic masculinity model. We also use as sources the novel “A Man Spent” (1885), of Ferreira Leal, and the Thesis “Sex education in the Brazilian side of the huge problem of the greatness of the Fatherland” (1923), of Felippe Miranda de Sousa Miranda.
