Religião católica e educação: diálogo entre Santo Agostinho e Padre Azarias

Abstract

This article aims to demonstrate, first, the educational contributions of Saint Augustine and Padre Azarias in their respective locus of action and action. In a second, this article seeks to understand about the use of education by the Catholic Church aiming at the development and maintenance of Christian doctrines, actions, political and territorial achievements. Next, the work consists of describing some similarities and didactic-pedagogical contributions of Saint Augustine and Padre Azarias Sobreira, on which we highlight some biographical stained glass. The first, born in Tagasta, North Africa, bishop of Hippo, philosopher, writer and teacher, left as the main legacy in the field of education the presuppositions of a humanistic, integral and transdisciplinary education. In the perspective of Augustinian education it is not enough that the student only conquered the mastery of contents, but that he / she knows how to relate that domain to a greater reality with values and principles that lead him to a wise life. On the other hand, Father Azarias Sobreira, son of Juazeiro do Norte, South of Ceará, philosopher, philologist, writer, teacher and humanist educator, exercised numerous ecclesiastical and educational functions, having distinguished himself in the regionalist and historiographic literature of popular customs. In this sense, education will also serve as a means of spreading and consolidating the exegesis of the Catholic Church in its context. In conclusion, the study found that education has been a strong ally of the Catholic Church for the conquest of believers, dissemination of Catholic exegesis, political and territorial power; and showed many similarities between St. Augustine and Padre Azarias, despite the distance in time and space.
