Abstract in Brazilian Portuguese:	Há na teoria schopenhaueriana da representação diversas semelhanças com as teorias dos filósofos britânicos Berkeley e Locke. Entretanto, sobretudo por conta de sua influência kantiana, ela é, ainda assim, crítica de ambas. É um ponto de comparação interessante entre a teoria dos britânicos e a do filósofo alemão o conceito de matéria, pois está no centro das teorias do conhecimento de todos eles. Que é matéria? Qual sua relação com o mundo e com o conhecimento? Qual sua relação com o sujeito e o corpo?
Abstract:	There is in the Schopenhauer’s theory of representation several similarities with the theories of British philosophers Locke and Berkeley. However, mainly because of its Kantian influence, it is critical of both. It is an interesting point of comparison between the theory of the British and the German philosopher the concept of matter, it is at the heart of theories of knowledge of them all. What is matter? What is its relationship with the world and with the knowledge? What is its relationship with the subject and the body?
