O Reconhecimento em Axel Honneth: Um diálogo Crítico com Hegel

Abstract

This work has as its central objective to discuss the re-updating of the Hegelian category recognition in the political writings of Axel Honneth. More specifically, the Honnetian retelling of Hegel's juvenile writings in Iena. The reason for this interest is the debate about the role of intersubjectivity. When analyzing such a debate, it is perceived that contemporary political philosophy assists in the resumption of Hegelian thought from new conceptual standards. With the advent of the post-metaphysical delineation, the process unleashed by the claims of recognition is suggested as a new referential of the thematization of what Hegel called ethics. In this way, Honneth proposes a theoretical foundation that is not anchored in an ultimate foundation, constitutive of an essentiality. Similar to the Hegelian proposal, Honneth intends to provide a logical reading of reality, providing elements that allow us to understand the space of possibilities in which society is configured: a "moral grammar of social conflicts". The difference, however, lies in the target Honneth wants to achieve: the struggles, the political clashes that make minority actors central to the public arena of politics. It is not by chance that Honneth's arguments attempt to make explicit the resumption of critical theory into the present great debates of the twentieth century. More specifically, pointing out possible limitations in the linguistic approach of the intersubjectivity paradigm. According to Honneth, the central criticism is based on the thesis that the possibilities of the interactive communicative experience cannot be summarized, or taken exclusively, in the linguistic interaction. In view of the arguments presented, the present work will cover the paths taken by Honneth in an attempt to revise the Hegelian ethics model in order to construct a theory of recognition. For this, this writing will present the main moments of the philosophy of the recognition of the young Hegel, the one of Iena. After this step, it will be discussed how Honneth appropriates the term recognition of the nineteenth-century philosopher, pointing out the positive moments of the act of recognizing and negatives regarding non-recognition. And, finally, the current debate with contemporary philosophers. Authors like Paul Ricoeuer, Charles Taylor, Nancy Fraser and Jürgen Habermas will be analyzed, thematized. The main goal is to show the relevance of this discussion and the influences that Honneth received in the development of his theory of recognition in the 20th / 21st century.
