William Morris y los origenes del socialismo ecologico

Abstract

The article aims to further discuss the role played by William Morris in the design of a pioneer of the current ecological thinking and libertarian socialist utopia. We are particularly interested in highlighting the environmental perspective in the author’s creative effort, for which we will make a small cut in his utopian romance “News from nowhere”, originally published in the year 1890. The text to follow is a brief history about the concept of utopia, with a special section on the dualism between the approaches utopian socialists of the scientific and historical materialism. Then try to sketch the various profiles of the author, and finally discusses the anticipatory nature of the ecological perspective in the work of Morris and his influence as an inspirational source of ecological socialism of the XXI century.
