Um estudo histórico-social de figurino no mangá Kuroshitsuji de Yana Toboso

Abstract

Set in Victorian-era England, the manga series Kuroshitsuji (黒執事) - translated as "The Black Butler" or "The Dark Butler" - is the document and primary source of the present study. Yana Toboso writes and illustrates the story of Ciel Phamthonhive, an English Earl, orphan and with thirteen years old, has the help of his business allies, his employees, and his impeccable demon butler to solve the quests requested by Queen Victoria Herself. We approach the understanding of how the author, dressing her characters, related the clothes with the identity of each one and how their behaviors can be linked to their customs. We use narrative analysis as a tool for investigating the customs, taking certain events from the plot and relating it to behavioral and fashion history in the 19th century, so we observe how these characters fit or not in established standards from that moment.
