Abstract: The objective was to identify the frequency, age and gender of the elderly victims of head trauma, a dmitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). Retrospective study of descriptive and documentary nature, conducted with medical records of elderly patients suffering from brain injury trauma ICU of an emergency care hospital located in Fortaleza, Ceará. The res earch period was from January to August 2013. The results showed that the determinants of hospitalization among the elderly in the ICU were: fall from own height, car accident, fall from the first floor, stair fall, beating and unknown factor. In conclusio n, the elderly require special and differentiated attention, mainly because of their physical condition, so that way they can carry out their daily activities without compromising their mobility, avoiding accidents such as those mentioned.
