dc.description.abstract-ptbrNew and extensive collections of marine algae made in Salvador, Bahia(Lat.S 12 57', Long.W 38 29') infortaleza, Ceará (Lat. S 3 46', Long. W 38 33'0 and in a few other places in then neighbourhood of the last namedcity showed that a number of common algae in these regions were up to now unreported on the Brazilian shores (Taylor, 1960). Certain findings are very puzziling from a phytogeographical point of view (see under Caulerpa scalpelliformis). The four previus papers of this series (see Joly 1956, Joly and col. 1962, 1963, 1965) deald with algae found south of Rio de Janeiro, aproximately to the latitude of 23 S. The present report is the first of a series dealing with Brazilian algae found north of Rio de Janeiro.pt_BR
