| Abstract in Brazilian Portuguese: | Nas conjunturas de 1877-1879 e 1888-1889, períodos de seca no nordeste brasileiro, implementou-se, entre as políticas públicas de Socorros, um sistema de emigração para os pobres-livres-flagelados ou simplesmente retirantes, com passagens subsidiadas. Grande número de cearenses emigraram nestas circunstâncias para o Norte (Amazônia) e o Sul (São Paulo). |
| Abstract: | During the drought times, 1877-1879 and 1888-1889, in Northeast Brazilian, some different public measures began to be applied to help the people affecred by this phenomenon, the so called flagelados or retirantes. One of those measures was the subsidiary passage. A great number of Cearenses migrated to the North (to the Amazon) or to South (São Paulo). |
