| Resumo: | Este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar as monstruosidades presentes nas três personagens principais de “La Morte Amoureuse” (1836), de Téophile Gautier, buscando compreender como a relação entre essas personagens eleva ao primeiro plano uma discussão sobre a moral cristã. O estudo parte da hipótese de que as escolhas de Gautier ao trabalhar com uma vampira apaixonada, um padre reprimido sexualmente e seu duplo, e um abade, como bússola da moral, faz transparecer uma crítica à moralidade cristã burguesa em voga na França do século XIX. Para tanto, observa-se a teoria do conto de Piglia (2004), na qual discute-se que o conto possui uma segunda história escondida em uma primeira, que só é revelada ao final da narrativa. À luz dos monster studies, com contribuições de Cohen (2000), Musharbash (2014), Asma (2009) e, principalmente sob a visão antropofágica de Mittman (2012), o trabalho estrutura-se a partir dos personagens centrais do conto e dos temas pertinentes a cada um deles. Analisa-se, primeiramente, Clarimonde à luz da visão da Igreja Católica e a sociedade burguesa francesa do século XIX esperavam da mulher, com base nas discussões sobre a Igreja e a mulher, em destaque Eva e Maria Madalena, de Duby (2013), a demonização da mulher, segundo Delumeau (2009), e o papel feminino na França pós-Revolução Francesa na perspectiva de Michelle Perrot (2009), e como isso afeta seus aspectos vampirescos. Em seguida, examina-se Romuald enquanto personagem e narrador, discutindo-se o papel da memória no julgamento das ações do jovem padre, bem como sua condição de duplo, dividido entre a moralidade cristã representada por Sérapion e a liberdade associada a Clarimonde, a partir das reflexões de Santos (2009) e de Rosset (2008), e as questões sexuais a partir de Bataille (1987) e da análise literária pelo viés psicanalítico. Por fim, discute-se o abade Sérapion como um demônio, além de sua relação com a moral cristã discutida por Vainfas (1986). Ao longo da pesquisa, dialoga-se com estudos sobre vampiros de Lecouteux (2003), Braga (2020) e Melton (2003). Conclui-se que a segunda história do conto é um comentário irônico de Téophile Gautier, que usa de três figuras monstruosas para apontar o falso moralismo da burguesia francesa e amarra tal crítica ao fazer com que Romuald, o protagonista, troque a própria felicidade pelo caminho da moral cristã. |
| Abstract: | This work aims to investigate the monstrosities presente in the three main characters of La Morte Amoureuse (1836), by Théophile Gautier, seeking to understand how the relationship between theses charaters brings to the fore a discussion about Christian morality. This study starts from the hypothesis that Gautier’s choices in working with a female vampire in love, a sexually repressed priest and his double, and na abbot as a moral compass, reveal a critique of Bourgeois Christian morality in vohe in 19th-century France. To this goal, this study uses Piglia’s theory of the short story (2004), which argues that the short story has a second story hidden within the first, which is Only revealed at the end of the narrative. In accordance with the monster studies, with contributions from Cohen (2000), Musharbash (2004), Asma (2009), and especially Mittman’s (2012) anthropophagic perspective, this work is structured around the central characters of the story and the themes relevant to each of them. First, Clarimonde is analyzed in light of the vision that the Catholic Church and 19th-century French bourgeois society expected of women, based on discussions about the Church and women, notably Eve and Mary Magdalene, by Duby (2013), the demonization of women, according to Delumeau (2009), and the role of women in post-French Revolution France from the perspective of Michelle Perrot (2009), and how this affects her vampiric aspects. Next, Romuald is examined as a character and narrator, discussing the role of memory in judging the young priest's actions, as well as his condition as a double, divided between the Christian morality represented by Sérapion and the freedom associated with Clarimonde, based on the reflections of Santos (2009) and Rosset (2008), and sexual issues based on Bataille (1987) and psychoanalytic literary analysis. Finally, Abbot Sérapion is discussed as a demon, and his relationship with the Christian morality discussed by Vainfas (1986). Throughout the research, studies on vampires by Lecouteux (2003), Braga (2020) and Melton (2003) are discussed. It is conclued that the second story hidden in the Thépohlie Gautier’s short story is na ironic commentary by Gautier, who uses three monstrous figures to point out the false moralism of the French burgeoisie and ties this criticismo by making Romuald, the protagonist, exchange his own happines for the path of Christian morality. |
