Design faz gênero?: reflexões na criação de um livro-objeto

Abstract

This work aims to reflect on the role of design in constructing gender notions, through the creation of an object book, whose visual language progressively detaches itself from preconceived notions of genre and whose narrative invites reflection. For this, a bibliographic basis was made around the notions of social function and Queer Theory, as well as research on the relationship between gender and Design and the problems faced by transgender people. The methodology used in the project was the Double Diamond, divided into four phases: discover, define, develop, and deliver. Its starting point was preliminary research and interviews with transgender people. From the analysis of the interviews, there was a greater understanding of the problems they faced and the book object began to be conceived. Both the subject to be addressed in the narrative and the visual language adopted started by comparing what was observed in the interviews and the role of design in this observation.
