dc.description.abstract	The present article seeks to discuss the representation of the feminine in Rome in the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. For this, it was necessary a brief approach on the mechanisms of male domina tion discussed by the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, as well as some concepts developed by the philosopher Michel Foucault both essential for this study. We also propose in the light The Merchant of Plautus anddemonstrate the intentionalities present in the aforementioned comedy.	pt_BR
