Das festividades aos festivais: Uma etnografia sobre populações rurais e a inserção do turismo em Guaramiranga

Abstract

This Capstone Project brings forth the results of an ethnographic research on the rural population in the town of Guaramiranga, located in the hilly region of Baturité, Ceará State, nearly 100 km away from the capital city Fortaleza. The main purposeof this research has been to analyze the process of social shift brought about to peasant population living in coffee farmlands in Guaramiranga. The thrust to this change has been the touristic activity encouraged, chiefly, through public policies by the local and state governments, which had been implemented in the late 1980‟s.Initially, the research had defined, through historical investigation, the structural characteristics of the social-cultural agricultural conjuncture within local population. Following that, the ethnographic review focused, in particular, upon locals‟ oral narratives about the festivities that took place back in the agricultural period, compared to the ones nowadays, with prevalence of touristic activity. Such events are grasped on this research taking into consideration the perspective of the anthropological study of rite as revealing of structure (GENNEP, 1977), which aims to depict the shift processes dynamics within such rural communities, under the conceptual perspective of Sahlins (1985).
