Abstract

For a long time, studies about the family in our country were focused on the concerns of anthropologists and sociologists being only from the 80's that went on to win the interest of historians and other professionals. Today the debates about the family in Brazil acquires leading role, especially with the new family arrangements that are gestating. Studies show that the last 20 years, there is no hegemonic family model in our country, today the family settings clash with the traditional model of father, mother and children, coming to the new structuring such as single parents who raise children, creating for grandparents maternal and paternal, aunts and uncles and godparents. In this sense, we can not talk about family in the singular, but plural. However this is still a very controversial issue, especially when it involves LGBT couples and their demands for the right to adoption. In this sense, from our master's research was focused on the trajectory of North riograndense writer and africanBrazilian Auta de Souza (1876-1901), we found that since colonial times other family models already exist such as the slave families breaking fully with the notion of exclusivity of the patriarchal family model formulated by GibertoFreyre.
