Bases de dados para pesquisa em Engenharia de Produção: uma análise a partir do Portal de Periódicos da Capes

Abstract

Discerning between different types of sources of information and having prior knowledge about the characteristics and differentials that each offers is an important step for scientific research. The research was guided by the objective of helping researchers to know the sources of information about Production Engineering contained in Capes' Portal of Periodicals and search strategies as well as to contribute to the dissemination of the databases presented here and to conceptualize different types of databases according to the classification of consecrated authors in the area. An exploratory study was used in the study, in the form of a case study, analyzing the case of the databases of the Production Engineering sub-area available at Capes' Journals Portal. It is concluded that the Portal offers a wide and diversified coverage for the Production Engineering sub-area. Most recovered bases, however, carry English material, and this fact can pose a challenge to researchers who are unfamiliar with the language. This research guided researchers to obtain notions about the concepts of primary, secondary and tertiary information sources; to know the search strategies in the Capes Portal; understand the differences between database types; to understand the importance of English proficiency in scientific research, and to list the found bases for the subarea in question such as Emerald Insight (Emerald) and Oxford Journals (Oxford University Press).
