A evolução do conceito de parâmetro do sujeito nulo

Abstract

This bibliographic review aims to provide an overview about the concept of null subject parameter at different moments of generative studies: the introduction of this concept within the scope of the theory of Government and Binding (CHOMSKY, 1981); The reflections brought by the investigations of Nicolis (2008) with creole languages and, finally, the notion of multiple markings of the pro-drop parameter proposed by Holmberg and Roberts (2009) already within the Minimalist Program. An explanation was also made regarding the current status of the subject parameter in Brazilian Portuguese (BP) in order to demonstrate how the possibility of “mixed systems” already pointed out by Chomsky (1981) seems to explain the distinct nature of the null subject in Portuguese compared to the European variety (EP).
