Informação e memoria: a biblioteca como fonte de conhecimento

Abstract

Discusses the library as a place of memory and space knowledge. The need for the development of information society necessitated the emergence of an institution that promotes the organization of informational records and the preservation of this knowledge. This is the context in which the library is inserted as the guardian of knowledge. It has for objective to present a retrospective of the information, emphasizing its importance in social practice and in the apprehension of knowledge. It also presents the evolution of records of knowledge in society and presents the library as a space for preservation and conservation of records informational and cultural production. We tried to in this communication, conduct a literature review, in which approached the factors that characterize the library as the guardian of scientific production and an important tool in the construction of socio-cultural identity. It is concluded that among the institutions involved in preservation, the library has indisputable role in safeguarding and dissemination of the past and therefore the cultural identity of a people.
