      <title>Análise das proibições, permissões e obrigações nas batalhas em mangás</title>

      <description>Título: Análise das proibições, permissões e obrigações nas batalhas em mangás
Autor(es): Lopes, Maria Fabiola Vasconcelos
Abstract: This article aims at investigating deontic markers in the discourse of manga. For this, the deontic meanings (prohibitions, permissions, and obligations) activated by the characters in manga are observed. Also, the inclusion or non-inclusion of the source and the mood are analyzed. The plot involves a group of students forced to fight to death. However, they need to make links in order to survive. So, the dialogues in the context chosen allow observing the interaction as a cooperative activity (HENGEVELD, 1989 p. 229). Writers such as Lyons (1977), Bybee, Perkins, and Paliuca (1994) and Tomasello (2008) also give support to the study. The research is developed under a Functionalistic perspective and attempts to understand the argumentative value by means of the various meanings of deontic modality. The results reveal that command (25,9%) and persuasion (46,7%) are highlighted, being essential in the discourse in the manga. At last, the study has the support of PRAE/UFC.

Abstract: In this essay, we analyze Janie’s process of identity construction, the&#xD;
protagonist of the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God (1937), by the Afro-American&#xD;
writer Zora Neale Hurston. Our objective is to show that this process of the character’s&#xD;
construction is pervade by a constant search for a poetic way of living, in which she&#xD;
could decide her own actions, even if she had to disobey the laws of the modern world.&#xD;
By denying the objective and fragmented reality of the real world, Janie yearns for a&#xD;
place where she can deal with her desires. By achieving this way of living, although&#xD;
only for a short period of time, with the help of her last lover, the character finds her&#xD;
blackness, and a feeling of freedom unthinkable so far. Thus, it is established in the&#xD;
narrative a struggle between the character’s subjectivity, and the objectivity of her daily&#xD;
reality, which stands out. In this way, the novel in question is representative of the&#xD;
literary production of the called black North American Literature, Literature of&#xD;
Resistance, understood as a claim for cultural identity, and the fight for the insertion of women, and ethnical minorities in the North American society, who seek to free&#xD;
themselves from the oppression of silence and alienation.

      <title>Elaboração de perguntas, memória de trabalho e a compreensão leitora em L2</title>
      <link>http://repositorio.ufc.br/handle/riufc/51473</link>
      <description>Título: Elaboração de perguntas, memória de trabalho e a compreensão leitora em L2
Autor(es): Baretta, Luciane; Tavares, Maria da Glória Guará
Abstract: The assessment of reading comprehension is an issue that has motivated a&#xD;
considerable amount of studies. Many of these have shown that the variables of&#xD;
readers’ characteristics, types of texts, subsequent task of reading comprehension and&#xD;
language do influence the way one approaches a text. In this paper, the extent to&#xD;
which the ability to formulate questions about a text correlates with working memory&#xD;
capacity was examined. Eleven L2 (foreign, second, additional language) graduate&#xD;
students performed a reading span test and a reading task which required them to read&#xD;
two expository texts and formulate one question at the end of each paragraph of each&#xD;
of the texts. Results indicated that, although there was not a statistically significant&#xD;
correlation between textually implicit and scripturally implicit questions and working&#xD;
memory capacity, these types of questions were more frequent for those readers with a&#xD;
higher working memory capacity, suggesting that they are more prone to make&#xD;
inferences.
