Abstract: This study examines gender terminology based on indexing policies of libraries at Brazilian federal universities. It begins with the following question: it possible to propose a terminological review based on the reality of Brazilian federal university libraries regarding gender issues, specifically the category of women? The general objective is to investigate terminology in the libraries of Brazilian federal universities in relation to gender issues, with a specific emphasis on the category of women, aiming at proposing a terminological review in dialogue with indexing policies. The specific objectives are: to discuss terminologies contextualized to the fundamentals of the field of Information Science; to analyze the indexing policies of libraries at Brazilian federal universities; to identify the set of terms referring to gender issues, specifically in the category of women, in catalogs of library systems at Brazilian federal universities, observing terminological consistency and the appropriateness of terms in the indexing process; to propose recommendations for reviewing indexing activities and improving the indexing policies of federal university libraries in relation to gender issues, with an emphasis on the category of women. The research methodology, in terms of its purpose, is descriptive; in terms of its means, it is a literature review; and in terms of data treatment, it is qualitative. The universe consists of 69 library systems from Brazilian federal universities, while the general sample is 9 federal university library systems that have indexing policy manuals (UFAM, UFT, UFC, UFG, UFRJ, UFF, UFSC, UFRGS, and FURG), and the specific sample is 3 federal university library systems that have indexing policy manuals addressing gender issues (UFC, UFRGS, and FURG). The instruments for data collection and analysis are divided into four stages: the existence of indexing policies in the libraries of Brazilian federal universities; analysis of the 9 indexing policies of the libraries of Brazilian federal universities; and analysis of gender-related terms in the online catalogs of UFC, UFRGS, and FURG, as these are the three institutions that address gender issues in their indexing policies. Proposal for a terminological revision based on analysis performed on the online catalogs of UFC, UFRGS, and FURG. It concludes that searches in the online catalogs of UFC, UFRGS, and FURG, using the terms "Gender", "Feminine", "Feminism", "Feminist" and "Woman", generated a robust set of terminological results that allowed for the identification of inconsistencies in the terms, in this case 255, which generated the following categories for correction: spelling errors; inadequate terms; ambiguity and polysemy; inadequate MARC field; lack of specificity; singular and plural; synonyms; term registered but without associated work. These categories generated a proposed terminological revision with 159 terms, and this revision was guaranteed by the vocabularies/terminologies: BN (Brazil); LCSH; DeCS; Homosaurus; USP Controlled Vocabulary; Thesaurus for Gender and Women's Studies; Brazilian Feminist Dictionary; Wikidata; RVBI Basic Controlled Vocabulary, BN (Spain); and the informational resource itself indexed.

    <title>Regime de informação das políticas públicas LGBTI+ no Brasil</title>
    <link>http://repositorio.ufc.br/handle/riufc/52012</link>
    <description>Título: Regime de informação das políticas públicas LGBTI+ no Brasil
Autor(es): Santos, Raimundo Nonato Ribeiro dos
Abstract: It analyzes the information regime of LGBTI+ public policies in Brazil, identifying the&#xD;
elements that compose it (contexts, social actors, information devices, information&#xD;
artifacts and information actions). Based on the conceptual network of Information&#xD;
Science, the theoretical framework relates the concepts of public policies, information&#xD;
policies, information regime, gender and sexual diversity. The methodology proposes&#xD;
the paradigm evidentiary approach to the development of research, classifying it as&#xD;
qualitative and quantitative, about their approach; applied, as to its nature; descriptive,&#xD;
regarding its objectives; bibliographic / documentary and action research as to their&#xD;
procedures. Data collection was performed by brauseio, browsing, identifying and&#xD;
collecting data in portals and web sites of the Federal Government and state&#xD;
governments and other social actors in the research field, with additional information&#xD;
in bibliographic / documentary. We gathered the data collected in two sets, aiming at&#xD;
its organization, analysis and interpretation. Initially, we present a mapping of Brazilian&#xD;
public policies for the LGBTI+ population, at national and state levels. Next, we present&#xD;
a reconfiguration of the information regime model, which together with the mapping,&#xD;
allowed us to describe the information regime of LGBTI+ public policies. We conclude&#xD;
by pointing out the impact of information as a vector for inclusion, protagonism, building&#xD;
citizenship and reducing inequalities, which can contribute to tackling homophobia, the&#xD;
dominant view of gender and machismo, promoting diversity in all spheres of society,&#xD;
including in Information Science

    <description>Título: A Biblioteca Pública, o utilizador idoso e as políticas de infoinclusão
Autor(es): Bezerra, Fabíola Maria Pereira
Abstract: This work focuses on Public Libraries and their relationship with aged users,&#xD;
reviewing the social and informational role of those libraries, based on the&#xD;
universal principles established by UNESCO, as well as the lack of public&#xD;
polices devoted to old population. The analysis of the services provided by the&#xD;
libraries enabled to conclude that doesn’t exist, from their side, an effective&#xD;
action directed to aged users, and that it is necessary to implement a planned&#xD;
action at national level, with the leadership of the organic sectors connected to&#xD;
libraries. The result of such national action would promote a change in the&#xD;
passive scenario played by public libraries in relation to the aged user. The&#xD;
development of this research started from a contextualization of Libraries and&#xD;
their historical and evolutive process, describing the library conceptual&#xD;
evolution, including its new role as info-inclusion agent. It describes also the&#xD;
public policies of info-inclusion in Portugal and the implementation process of&#xD;
the Public Libraries Network. The diagnosis of the existing situation in the&#xD;
Portuguese Public Libraries today and their relationship with the aged user has&#xD;
been accomplished through a survey sent to the public libraries. It focused also&#xD;
in a practical case study on the Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett and&#xD;
reached to the knowledge of the aged user vision and its relationship with the&#xD;
library, also through a survey. Finally there are indicated some proposals in&#xD;
order to the implementation of info-inclusion policies devoted to the aged user and there are mentioned the measures that shall be undertaken for a successful&#xD;
work with aged users inside the libraries.&#xD;
