Abstract: Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining health throughout life. In this context, attending gyms and engaging in strength and resistance training are widely adopted modalities aimed at promoting well-being and physical conditioning. However, this type of training may be associated with the exacerbation of oral behaviors characteristic of awake bruxism, and the literature on this topic remains inconclusive. The objective of the present study was to evaluate oral behaviors in individuals who practice resistance training. A convenience sample was used, and participants completed an online questionnaire (Google Forms) that collected data on oral behaviors using the Oral Behavior Checklist during daily life and resistance training (teeth clenching and biting the tongue, lips, or cheeks), as well as training-related variables (frequency, duration, and intensity) and physical activity level assessed by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Descriptive analyses of the variables were performed. Comparisons of oral behaviors between daily life and resistance training were conducted using the McNemar test, adopting a significance level of 5% (p &lt; 0.05). The sample (n = 195) had a mean age of 29 ± 8 years and consisted of 46.2% male and 53.8% female participants, most of whom were classified as physically active (44.1%) or very active (48.2%). The majority reported training sessions lasting 60–90 minutes (54.9%), performed 4–6 days per week (73.8%). Regarding pre-workout use, 110 individuals reported using caffeine, pre-workout supplements, energy drinks, carbohydrates, or thermogenic agents. In the assessment of oral behaviors, a significant increase in the habit of teeth clenching was observed when comparing daily life and training periods (p = 0.041). In contrast, no statistically significant difference was found for the behavior of biting the tongue, lips, or cheeks between the evaluated situations (p= 0.909). The increase in these oral behaviors may lead to manifestations in the stomatognathic system; however, further longitudinal studies are needed to assess clinical signs in individuals who practice resistance training.

    <title>Condições de saúde bucal de crianças e adolescentes em situação de rua no Brasil: revisão de escopo</title>

Abstract: People experiencing homelessness in Brazil constitute a significant segment of the population and face long-standing challenges marked by invisibility, extreme social vulnerability, weakened family and social ties, and limited or absent access to fundamental rights. Within this context, children and adolescents are even more vulnerable, as they are exposed early to extreme situations that directly affect their physical and psychological development. Oral health is directly impacted by these conditions, with consequences that may persist throughout life, since childhood and adolescence are critical periods for the establishment of healthy habits and adequate oral health. This study aimed to map and synthesize the oral health conditions of children and adolescents in Brazil over the last 15 years, describing the main clinical findings and identifying contextual factors that may influence these outcomes. A scoping review was conducted using the databases PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual de&#xD;
Saúde, and Periódicos CAPES. After a concept-mapping process using DeCS/MeSH descriptors, eight articles were included. All studies were conducted with institutionalized children and adolescents, highlighting the absence of research involving those who were actively living on the streets at the time of data collection, representing an important gap in the national scientific literature. Overall, the findings indicate unfavorable oral health conditions, strongly influenced by social and structural determinants. This review underscores the need to expand and strengthen research on this topic and to adopt approaches that are sensitive to the specificities of this highly vulnerable population.

Abstract: The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic serves a diverse population seeking elective surgical dental treatment. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the oral health conditions of patients treated at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic of the Federal University of Ceará, Fortaleza campus. Sociodemographic data were collected, as well as clinical information related to caries experience, edentulism, urgency of treatment, access to the clinic, and patient satisfaction. The results demonstrated a high experience of dental caries, with predominance of the “missing” component, pulpal involvement as the main clinical consequence of untreated caries, and a high need for prosthetic rehabilitation, especially among elderly patients. In addition, a higher frequency of recent dental consultations was observed among clinic users when compared to national data. It is concluded that the oral health conditions of patients treated at the clinic are more severe than national indices, reinforcing the need for oral health actions directed at this population.

Abstract: The removal of biofilm from dental prostheses is essential for promoting the oral health of users. However, commercial cleansers available on the market do not efficiently sanitize the prosthetic surface without altering its structural properties. This challenge makes plants of the Cymbopogon genus potential alternatives for prosthesis hygiene, as they exhibit antifungal and antibacterial properties. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effects of a 1% Cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass)-based cleansing gel on the microhardness variation of acrylic resin trial bases through a simulated brushing test over five years. For this purpose, thirty heat-polymerized acrylic resin specimens were randomly distributed into three groups (n = 10/group) according to the tested solution: distilled water (DW) as a negative control group, commercial toothpaste Even® (CT) as a positive control group, and a 1% C. citratus-based gel (CG) as the test group. Analyses were performed before and after 12 (T1), 36 (T2), and 60 (T3) simulated months of brushing. The data were expressed as mean and standard deviation, subjected to the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and compared between groups using ANOVA/Bonferroni tests and between time points using repeated-measures ANOVA/Bonferroni or paired t-tests (parametric data). All analyses were performed using&#xD;
GraphPad Prism 5.0, with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the tested gel did not significantly alter microhardness, as the CG group did not present statistically significant differences between time points, whereas the other groups did. Therefore, the findings suggest that the experimental 1% Cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass)-based gel does not adversely affect the microhardness of acrylic resin trial bases.
