Abstract: This work discusses the manifestation of theoretical assumptions that underlie the sociocognitivist approach to language in Clarice Lispector’s novels. In order to investigate this question, we attempt to verify whether the discourse in these novels shows features that indicate the recognition of the indicial character language presents, the suggested idea that with language we shape the world and aspects we could associate with a conception that takes meaning construction as a collaborative activity. To carry out the study, we conceptually delimit sociocognition, since it is a still diffuse epistemological perspective, and debate the deconstruction of the notion of accurate reality representation, which we consider a starting point to understand the concept of recursion in language and the coherence it holds with the sociocognitive hypothesis about communication. Turning to different fields of knowledge due to the object’s complexity and conducting our methodological course along the lines of the spiral movement that characterizes abductive reasoning, we examine 40 passages we deem strongly emblematic of Clarice’s writing, which is simultaneously problematizing and problematized. The passages were selected from her nine novels. The results of our analysis demonstrate that the self- reflexive discourse in these novels suggests indeed assumptions of sociocognition, not with self- validated arguments one could articulate towards the defense of this epistemological perspective as a language approach, but with explanations on world semiotization in a recursive operation that, in addition to insinuating, enacts itself the continuity between the process of being with others, our experience of being and doing in language and our knowledge of the common reality we produce.
