Abstract: Based on the understanding that the political-religion dichotomy is a classic theme in
the area of Social Sciences (MATA, 2008), this investigation placed the object
historically and concentrated efforts on the particularities presented in the context of
Brazil. In order to analyze the influence of Christianity in the current Brazilian political
scenario, the research resorted to the República editorial, of the Gazeta do Povo
newspaper, to verify how the publications highlighted the theme in the period
between 2018 and 2021. In view of this , located the media vehicle in the national
panorama and presented the relevance of the theme in its scope. Thus, the research
required expertise in quantitative and qualitative approaches and was developed
from theoretical-methodological assumptions of content analysis (BARDIN, 2011).
The techniques used were bibliographic research (STUMPF, 2005), individual
interview (GASKELL, 2002) and documental research (OLIVEIRA, 2007). The results
showed that Christianity exerts influence in the Brazilian political scenario today and
that the association between politics and religion is perceived as legitimate within the
scope of the newspaper Gazeta do Povo, being recurrent in news related to the
