Abstract: This article presents a proposal for managing communities and groups on&#xD;
WhatsApp, focusing on strengthening the relationship between academic library and its users. There is a rescue of the history of two academic libraries at UFC. After that, it describes the features of WhatsApp by making a timeline for this application. Finally, it discusses the methods and strategies that were chosen to create communities and groups on WhatsApp, based on the following theoretical approaches: strategic planning, collection management and selective dissemination of information. In conclusion, WhatsApp can be used in academic libraries to keep in touch with its users.
