Abstract

This study investigates the influence of true crime consumption among women, focusing on the audience of YouTuber Bel Rodrigues. The genre, which combines entertainment and information, has gained popularity, particularly among female audiences, and is present in various media formats such as books, podcasts, and documentaries. The research analyzes the motivations behind this consumption, considering factors such as curiosity, learning, and self-preservation, as well as the possible identification with victims. The methodology used was qualitative, based on an online questionnaire directed at Bel Rodrigues' followers. The results reveal that most respondents consume true crime regularly, often seeking to understand criminal patterns and reinforce personal safety strategies. Additionally, a significant emotional impact was identified, with feelings ranging from fear and empathy to fascination. Some women reported changes in their habits, such as increased caution in daily life and the adoption of preventive measures. It is concluded that true crime is not only a form of entertainment but also a tool for awareness and social reflection. Women's consumption of this genre reflects concerns about security, justice, and vulnerability, making it a space for learning and personal empowerment. The phenomenon, therefore, goes beyond mere curiosity about real crimes and establishes itself as a means of understanding and confronting contemporary societal challenges.
