O ensino da biologia como ferramenta antirracista: uma análise da perspectiva docente

Abstract

Biology is a field of knowledge of great importance in combating hate speech. Historically, the misuse of biological concepts has served to legitimize discriminatory processes, making it essential to rethink the structures of biology education not only to recognize inequalities but also to critically problematize them. This study aims to analyze Biology teachers’ understanding of the concept of antiracist education within the context of teaching this discipline. It seeks to identify how teachers conceptualize antiracist education and how this understanding is reflected in their pedagogical practices. Furthermore, the study investigates how teachers address content related to ethnic-racial relations in Biology teaching, considering the challenges and possibilities present in everyday school contexts. The research also analyzes how teachers articulate biological knowledge with discussions on race, racism, and diversity, questioning biologizing conceptions and promoting a critical and contextualized perspective. The study contributes to reflections on the role of Biology education in the formation of critical individuals, highlighting the importance of pedagogical practices committed to the appreciation of ethnic-racial diversity and the confrontation of racism in the school environment.
