Os efeitos de distanciamento no jornalismo internacional televisivo: um estudo de caso sobre o Jornal Nacional

Abstract

Despite journalism being one of the most efficient practices to contextualize the events of the world and to promote the critical sense of the population, the transmission of the news still deals with some limitations and problems, especially in the scope of international journalism made by traditional television news, such as the lack of deepening in the world themes and the absence of humanizing characteristics. Therefore, this work sought to understand the mode of operation and the specificities of this coverage in one of the main news programs in the country, Jornal Nacional, from Rede Globo de Televisão. The research works on the hypothesis that international journalism, carried out by traditional Brazilian television programs, has distancing effects that hinder the connection between viewers and the international news. Thus, the main objective of this work is to categorize these effects and analyze, in practice, whether they are present in the international coverage made by JN. To achieve these objectives, the research used content analysis and a qualitative and quantitative case study, with inspection of the TV news editions, the use of in-depth interviews with international journalists from Globo and document consultation. From this, the data analysis found that, within the international news of Jornal Nacional, the effects of distancing were present, to a greater or lesser degree, in all the aspects listed by the definition of the category, which ends up causing the trivialization of themes complexes.
